fbe Newcastle event at the National Innovation Centre
fbe Newcastle branch, recently welcomed David Harland from Bauder Roofing as its guest speaker to its site tour event at the impressive £50 million National Innovation Centre, currently under construction in Newcastle City Centre.
The branch welcomed both new and longstanding members as well as non-members to the sell-out event which included a site tour of the Newcastle University’s National Innovation Centre, one of the most significant developments for the region.
The centre, which will be home to the National Innovation Centre for Ageing (NICA) and the National Innovation Centre for Data (NICD) as well as the National Institute for Health Research Innovation Observatory (NIHRIO), will bring together businesses, academia and members of the public to collaborate and support the research and development of data and ageing.
During his presentation, Mr Harland spoke about Bauder’s flat roofing systems as well as the materials and the processes that have been used on the construction of the Centre’s green roof.
The event gave guests the opportunity to see the innovation behind the building, designed by GSSARCHITECTURE, which is centered around creating a highly flexible and easy to configure environment with meeting and event spaces.
Speaking about the event, Matthew McCarrick fbe Newcastle branch committee member said:
“The event proved extremely popular and we’re delighted that it sold out. The building is impressive and really showcases construction at its best in the North East. It’s great that fbe can host events of this type and we were very grateful to B&K for hosting it, especially in their run up to project handover.
“Once complete, I’m confident that the centre will further strengthen the NE’s position as an innovative region.”
Main contractor at the scheme is B&K.
