Nick will discuss how Highways England are delivering the government’s Road Investment Strategy (RIS1) to enhance the network in the Midlands and the planning for RIS2 covering the period for 2020-25. He will also talk about how the Midlands team are leading the way with a series of innovation projects and how the company is planning for a future that includes the rise of electric and connected/autonomous vehicles and the concept of digital roads.
Nick is an asset development team leader in the Midlands Operations Division at Highways England – the government owned company charged with operating, maintaining and improving the strategic road network in England. Nick has over 15 years of experience working in a variety of policy, programme and strategic planning roles in Highways England and its predecessor the Highways Agency. Nick started his career in Whitehall and worked directly to three Permanent Secretaries at the Environment and Transport Departments.
