Colmore Business Improvement District (Colmore BID) is leading a unique study on The Future Business District both to inform the BID’s response to long term recovery from the Covid-19 pandemic and to offer policy directions on best practice for this and other central business districts in the UK.
Mike Best from Turley will talk about the study and its findings/recommendations – particularly around the view that Birmingham should embrace hybrid working and focus on making the City Centre the best place to do business whilst acknowledging that remote-working is here to stay.
Mike is a Senior Director at Turley, a National Planning and Development Consultancy, with offices across the UK. He led their Birmingham office for 11 years until 2015 and served on their main board from 2012 to 2021.
Mike also lectures at the University of Birmingham Planning School and sits on their RTPI Partnership Board.
Mike has worked in Birmingham city centre for over 25 years and has been a board director of Colmore BID since its inception in 2009. He now chairs the City Centre Strategic Partnership between the five BIDs, City Council and other agencies.
In late 2020, he initiated and secured funding from multiple partners for the Future Business District Study which looks at the long-term impact of the Covid-19 pandemic on the CBD and wider city centre. Its report was launched in October 2021.
