Guest Speaker: James Howarth, Managing Director of Sterling Property
James Howarth is managing director of Sterling Property Ventures Ltd, a major regional developer.
Specifically in Birmingham and the wider Midlands he has over 20 years’ experience in land and property, specialising in the planning, remediation and development of complex development sites. James historically developed 5 St Philips Place, Spectrum on Edmund Street, Temple Point, next to House of Fraser, Colmore Plaza (on the former Post & Mail site) and led the planning team for Kames Capital at 55 Colmore Row, Wragge’s former HQ, prior to sale. He also historically acquired the former IMI sites (now The Hub) and the former TRW site in Solihull (now The Green).
He is currently leading the Sterling team managing their current development exposure to the regional office market (103 Colmore Row, Birmingham and New City Place, Milton Keynes), PRS (Great Charles Place, Birmingham and Milton Keynes) and student sectors (Exeter), liaising with funding counterparties and the full professional team.
James will give us an insight into the regional office market, focusing on opportunities and threats to the wider property economy and discuss his proposals for 103 Colmore Row, which is set to positively change the skyline in Birmingham with a new 26 storey office tower. The building will provide a stunning cathedral sized winter garden and roof top restaurant. 103 Colmore Row is set to be the best office floorplate in Birmingham and is scheduled for completion in September 2020.
James is a Chartered Surveyor, and prior to Sterling PV he jointly founded Abstract Land Ltd and was a main board director of another regional developer, which followed time working in investment agency in Birmingham and London for King Sturge & Co and Matthews and Goodman respectively.
Outside his active business life James is focused on his growing family and enjoys Sailing, Skiing, watching rugby, hill walking and tennis.
