Details:
Ian Courts was first elected as a Councillor in Solihull in 2003. He became Leader in 2019 and is also Lead Member for Business & the Economy. His interest in business and development extends to his role in the West Midlands Combined Authority, where he was Portfolio Lead for Environment and Energy for four years and Lead for Housing & Land for one year until May 2024. He has also served as a member of the Economic Growth Board.

Ian studied law at Trinity Hall, Cambridge and joined the John Laing Group, initially as a solicitor, before transitioning into business, development, and management until retiring in 2004 after 30 years’ service. For several years Ian was a part-time lecturer / Visiting Fellow at Reading University. He is particularly interested in planning and inclusive, green growth – development that works for people and for our environment.

Ian will provide an insight into both current and future potential developments of Solihull Council, how the £200 million fund will be used to clean up brownfield land across the West Midlands for new homes and an update on WMCA Homes for the Future, and what this means for the Region.
